My first shoe when I “officially” became a runner was Mizuno’s Wave Rider 11. Having been loyal to Mizuno ever since, last week I was invited to celebrate the Wave Rider’s 20th birthday at a Mizuno media night.

It was a fantastic night learning about the new cloudwave technology, meeting some great people, and testing out the Wave Rider’s in a kettle bell fitness class provided by Energia Athletics in Toronto.

The next day, I took my Mizuno Wave Rider 20 shoes out for two test runs. They were so soft and responsive during my first run that all I wanted to do was run in them again! Yes, these shoes are soft and responsive!

Here’s why: The new cloudwave technology gives the shoe softer cushioning and a very smooth transition. The U4ic foam in the midsole offers a softer, longer lasting response. The U4icX foam under the wave plate in the heel of the shoe, allows for a softer landing because it provides greater shock absorption with increased energy return from heel to toe.

It’s no wonder why I felt such a spring in my step  (and the need to go for a second run!) Mizuno has left me with quite the dilemma. Do I continue to train in the wave Sayonara 4′s that I love so much, or switch back to the Wave Rider 20′s? Thanks, Mizuno, this is a good problem to have.
