From Hampered Heart to 10K Triumph: How One Wave Made A Big Impact

On April 24, 2011, Sean Peacock had the scare of his life.

While leading his church choir from the pulpit, he went into cardiac arrest and fell unconscious. His congregation went into panic. In the midst of the chaos, Sean’s heart stopped beating for 22 minutes.

Sean has a condition known as hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, which thickens the heart muscle and makes it difficult for the heart to pump blood. On that April day, it struck in an unexpected way. Through quick action by family and medical professionals, the husband and father of three survived the frightening incident.

Today, Sean, who is undergoing cardiac rehab, has found running as his key to live a fulfilling, happy life with his family and is committing every day to educating others about the dangers of heart disease.

When Sean entered the #MizunoWave contest by posting a picture of his best wave on Instagram, he had no idea he would win the grand prize. But now, that small wave has brought the cardiac arrest survivor farther than he ever imagined – and carried him straight to the finish line of the AJC Peachtree Road Race.

Check out Sean’s amazing story here.
